Hey friends! The start of a new month means a brand new Spellbinders kits of the month! This month, I am featuring the Sept Glimmer of the Month (GOM) called Glimmering Build A Banner. The set contains 8 hot foil plates and 3 cutting dies. It makes the perfect sentiment banner that can be used on a number of projects. It is so cute!
The inspiration for my card was to create a wedding card for a friend having a late fall/winter wedding, so I wanted a more branch heavy wreath. I used a new to me color combo – I hardly ever use brown in my designs, but I’m happy I tried something new. I love the result!
My card was fairly easy to put together. The things that took the longest were die cutting all the pieces and the floral arrangement. I struggle with arranging flowers and wreaths so I welcomed Jennifer McGuire’s latest video on using small die cuts. Her tips really helped me build my wreath. “Pillars, Fillers, and Spillers” are key to creating a beautiful full, natural looking wreath. Check the video to learn more! This is something I will continue to work on to get better at.
I started by die cutting my card panels using the A2 Matting Basics A die set. Once I had the card panels, I worked on building my wreath using a variety of Spellbinders die sets in my stash. For the base layer, I curved branches from the Build a Winter Birdhouse die set. I added other blooms, sprigs, and branches from the following Spellbinder die sets: Simply Perfect Layered Blooms, Sunday Drive With Santa, and Mini Blooms and Sprigs. After I finished assembling my wreath, I splattered some white gloss spray on top. If you know me, you know I love splatter.
For the sentiment banner, I hot foiled the word ‘Congrats’ and the banner pieces in silver foil on Silver Fox cardstock, and die cut with the coordinating dies. I used a thin line of Bearly Arts glue on the banner ends to adhere the pieces, they are easy to line up. And popped the whole banner up on foam tape for added dimension. Finally, I added silver embellishments for a little sparkle.

I held off for a long time thinking that I did not need any more tools or gadgets in my overflowing craft space. But I am so glad I bought the glimmer machine. I absolutely love the results!
