Flower Power Hugs – Poppystamps

Hey crafters! I’m back sharing some inspiration using one of the newest dies in the Poppystamps shop. It is a beautiful floral frame, perfect for spring or summer cards. I have a feeling it will be very popular. I decided to use the frame die in a slightly different way by cutting it up. I love finding ways to stretch my supplies and chopping up your existing die cuts in interesting ways is one such way.

To create my card, I started with the background. I used red, yellow, and orange alcohol inks on yupo paper. I tried a “pouring” technique where I applied ink in lines and tilted the paper so the ink ran down. Then I applied alcohol blending solution over the lines to help blend the inks and get them moving down the page. It is super easy to do and results in striped bands of color. I think it looks like a lava lamp and combined with the flowers, gives a retro, hippy feel to the card. If you are not already, I encourage you to follow me on IG. I will share a reel of the technique soon! I left the panel to dry overnight since you use a lot of liquid in this technique. Once dried, I trimmed the panel down to fit an A2 card base with a matte layer of white cardstock.

Next, I die cut the Flower Field Frame die twice from white cardstock and snipped the parts the I wanted to keep on the card front. I glued the layers together and adhered to the alcohol ink background in two corners.

From yellow, orange and pink cardstock, I die cut several individual flowers from the Floral Cluster die. I shaped the flowers with a ball stylus and glued them around the panel. To the centers, I added small drops of white nuvo drops.

For the sentiment, I used the new Freestyle Hugs die. I die cut the sentiment from white cardstock two times and once from a scrap of the alcohol ink panel. I adhered the layers together on top of the shadow layer die cut from vellum. I love the cursive font of this die. Hope you liked the card and are inspired to try something similar. Have a great day!
