Countdown Day 2: Unbe-leaf-able Birthday – MFT Stamps

Happy Easter/Passover/Ramadan! I hope you are enjoying time with friends and family reflecting on religious holiday, if you celebrate. This Easter, my husband and I will attend an online service and just spend time together at home. School starts back up tomorrow after a week off for spring break, so it’s back to reality after a mini vacation.

For day 2, I’m sharing an easy background technique along with a new die set called Potted Pets. I used the bear in the set to create a koala instead. Koalas and leaves go hand in hand so I thought it was a more “appropriate” critter for my sentiment. I encourage you to look for ways to stretch your supplies and use them in unexpected ways to get a new look.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Trim an A2 panel of patterned paper from Springing for Houndstooth Paper Pad and adhere to an A2 card base.
  2. Die cut a panel of white cardstock using the Double Stitched Rectangle STAX.
  3. Trim a panel of black cardstock to slightly larger than the white panel to matte behind it.
  4. Using your MFT dye ink cubes, swipe stripes of Sour Apple, Field Day, Cotton Candy, and light pink in the corners of the white panel.
  5. Splatter with diluted pink ink and white paint.
  6. Once the panel is dry, stamp a sentiment from Grow Together using Versafine Clair black ink. I usually use this black ink on top of mixed media.
  7. Die cut the bear and two types of leaves from Potted Pets Die-namics and color with copic markers. I used a YG combo on one leaf die cut and G on the other. I used several warm grays on the koala and pinks on the little flowers. Add details with a white pen and gems to the center of the flowers.
  8. Adhere everything together on the card front.

Hope you enjoyed this quick card! I love how cute this koala turned out. I thought about adding pieces of cotton ball to the ears for a little fuzz, but thought it looked ok without it. I tried to add that fuzzy bear texture with dots. What do you think? Thanks for stopping by!
